About Us
Weiser Youth Symphony (WYS) is a full orchestra of strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion conducted by Denise Rasmussen. Founded in fall 2011, WYS is currently 45 members strong. Musicians consist of youth, as young as 12 years old through high school age. Adults learning a new instrument, returning to their instrument after a long break, and seasoned musicians also participate. These adults serve in the symphony as wonderful mentors. Symphony members come from surrounding communities and rehearse weekly on Tuesday evenings from 7pm to 9pm in the Snake River Heritage Center's Hooker Hall auditorium.
WYS presents 3 concerts throughout the year [Christmas, Classical, POPS]. See our Performance Schedule for dates, times, and admission information.
WYS is an educational orchestra. All adults involved in the symphony, including the conductor, volunteer their time. Individuals and area businesses support WYS through concert attendance, donations, and sponsorships. Without such patronage, WYS would not be possible.
WYS gives youth and adults alike, a way to increase their experience and talent while broadening their musical experience. Musicians with at least 3 years of experience on their instrument and 12 years of age are encouraged to participate.
To have a youth orchestra in a community of Weiser’s size (population 5,537) is a rare thing. We love our town!
